When I am preparing a timeline for my clients I always start with what time sunset is on the day of their wedding to help me set what time the ceremony should start. In summer/daylight savings sometimes this isn’t a viable option as you can’t have the reception starting at 8.30pm and in that case I would suggest working backwards from what time you want the reception to start.

For a civil ceremony you usually need to allow half an hour and then an additional half an hour after for congratulations as well as a large group photo and family photos. From there we usually head straight into Bridal photos and make sure we arrive back to the reception about 15 minutes before the bridal entry.

All other timings for the day will depend on travel times, where people are getting ready etc. With the rest of the reception timeline try to make sure all speeches, cake cutting and first dance happen within the allotted time for the photographer. This will help you avoid paying the photographer more to stay back to cover these items.

I hope you all find this helpful and if you need any assistance planning out your day just let me know!
